About the Saskatoon Snowmobile Club

Founded in 1970, the Saskatoon Snowmobile Club (SSC) is a group of passionate, family-focused snowmobilers dedicated to safe and responsible snowmobiling in Central Saskatchewan.

We maintain about 125 km of trail starting at our Penner Clubhouse in North Corman Park, linking the communities of Martensville, Warman, Osler, Hague, Rosthern, Duck Lake, and MacDowall. Our trails give snowmobilers a chance to leave Saskatoon and access multiple trail systems in northern Saskatchewan.

The Saskatoon Snowmobile Club (#112) is a member of the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association.

The Executive

Saskatoon Snowmobile Club Board President

Bob Nicol

President

Bob Nicol has been a proud member of the Saskatoon Snowmobile Club for 53 years, beginning his snowmobiling journey in 1970 — the same year the club was founded. At that time, there were over 120 snowmobile manufacturers, and for a short time, Bob rode a Rollo-Flex, manufactured in Regina.

Over the decades, Bob has witnessed huge changes in both sleds and the sport itself. In the early days, a 70 km ride was a full day’s adventure with basic suspensions — today, he’s logged as much as 4,000 km per season and owned 23 sleds along the way.

In 2020, Bob was named Snowmobiler of the Year, recognized by the SSC executive for his dedication and long-time contributions to the club.

A lifelong Saskatoon resident (aside from a short stint with Ducks Unlimited in Loon Lake), Bob’s interests extend to aviation — he earned his private pilot’s licence at age 19. He looks forward to many more years of snowmobiling and connecting with others who share his passion for the sport.

Saskatoon Snowmobile Club Board Vice President

Gary Willman

Vice-President

Gary became a member of the Saskatoon Snowmobile Club in 2019 and quickly found that joining the club—and getting to know such a great group of people—really reignited his passion for sledding. As Vice-President of the club’s board, he appreciates the amount of work the club undertakes each season: grooming and maintaining trails, tending warm-up shelters, and promoting all the fun club activities.

Organized Club events like the Shellbrook Overnight Trip, the Rosthern Night Ride, and the Annual Corn Roast are among his favourite ways to engage with fellow members and the local sledding community. He says it’s been extremely rewarding to be part of such an amazing club—and if you want to become a member, you won’t be disappointed.

Gary lives in Saskatoon with his wife, Lori. They have one daughter and one grandson. When he’s not out on the sled he enjoys travelling with Lori, as well as cheering on football and hockey games.

His snowmobiling journey began with his first machine—a 1978 Kawasaki Intriger—that sparked lifelong enjoyment of the snow and trails.

Saskatoon Snowmobile Club Board Secretary Treasurer

John Popoff

Secretary-Treasurer

John joined the Saskatoon Snowmobile Club in the early 1970s and has been an active member for more than 50 years. Over the decades, he has served in many roles, including Vice-President, President, and currently Secretary-Treasurer. During the winter months, John spends countless hours in the groomer, helping keep the club’s trails in top condition for all to enjoy.

John retired over 20 years ago after a 40-year career with John Deere, where he worked in various Service and Sales Management roles. A passionate snowmobiler, he is also a founding member of the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association (established in 1971) and continues to serve on its Board of Directors. One of his favorite winter activities is conducting SSA trail evaluations for clubs across the province.

When the snow melts, John enjoys exploring Saskatchewan’s forest trails on his ATV or hitting the open road on his Harley-Davidson.

In 2008, John was inducted into the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame in recognition for his achievements for the sport of snowmobiling.

In 2025, John was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his decades of service and lasting impact on the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association.

Hazel started snowmobiling in her teens as a passenger on her brother’s sleds and has loved the sport ever since. She joined the Saskatoon Snowmobile Club in 2015 and has served on the Executive, helping support club activities and community projects.

In 2016 and 2018, Hazel was a core rider with Prairie Women on Snowmobiles, a volunteer group that raises awareness and funds for breast cancer research through long-distance rides across Saskatchewan. Her involvement reflects her passion for both snowmobiling and giving back to the community.

He lives in Saskatoon with his wife and two sons. When he’s not out on the trails, Matt enjoys watching his sons’ sports, playing hockey or slo-pitch, and spending time boating during the off-season.

His first ride was a 1983 John Deere Trailfire.

Saskatoon Snowmobile Club Board Member

Jim Puckett

Board Member

Jim has been snowmobiling for nearly 50 years—back when you rode all weekend and fixed all week. He and his wife, Fay, were married in 1965, the same year he graduated from the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Agriculture. They have two daughters, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.

Jim and Fay balanced full-time jobs while running a small farm, and even after retiring, Jim continued to operate seeding and harvesting equipment part-time.

A member of the Saskatoon Snowmobile Club for 25 years, he currently serves on the Board, operates a groomer, helps with equipment maintenance and trail signing, and volunteers as a Trail Evaluator with the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association.

Michael Rogalski

Board Member

I've been a SSC board member for over a decade and find it to be a really rewarding experience.

Snowmobiling has been part of my life for over 45 years, and the SSC does a great job of making the sport accessible to Saskatoon and area residents with our groomed trail starting just outside city limits.

Consider becoming a member to support the club and be invited to our group rides and social events. You might even enjoy volunteering alongside people you don't have to apologize to when you say, "I can't wait for winter!"

Gerri has been a proud member of the Saskatoon Snowmobile Club since 2001. She loves snowmobiling with her husband, son, and daughter — both around Saskatoon and at their cabin. Her passion for the sport runs deep; she even works full-time in the powersports industry!

Gerri also had the incredible experience of participating in a Prairie Women on Snowmobiles ride across the province. Above all, she treasures spending time with her family and sharing their love of snowmobiling together.

Jim Taman

Board Member

Jim is a retired Canada Post employee, avid snowmobiler, and proud Polaris enthusiast. He and his wife Bernadette love spending winters on the trails and volunteering within the snowmobiling community.

Beyond snowmobiling, Jim is also the founder and long-time president of the Western Canada Montreal Canadiens Fan Club, uniting “Habs” fans across the Prairies for over 30 years. Under his leadership, the club built a replica of the Montreal Forum dressing room at Saskatoon’s Harold Latrace Arena, complete with authentic Canadiens memorabilia.

The Taman family’s dedication to volunteerism earned them recognition as Canada’s Snowmobile Volunteer Family of the Year in 2022.

Saskatoon Snowmobile Club Board Member

Aaron Zeabin

Board Member

Aaron discovered his love for snowmobiling as a young teen, starting out on a 1987 Yamaha Phazer and a 1990 Indy 400. Today, he rides a 2009 Phazer and continues to explore Saskatchewan’s trails and scenery.

Aaron has been an active member of the club for several years and joined the board in 2024. When he’s not sledding, he enjoys ATVing, camping with his family, and fishing year-round.

For Aaron, snowmobiling is an exciting way to experience the outdoors and see all that our province has to offer. He hopes to see the sport continue to grow and bring new riders into the community.

Marcel Voyer

Advisory Member

Marcel began snowmobiling at age 12 on his family farm near Foxdale. Over the years, he has owned and ridden sleds from all four major manufacturers — and even a Ski-Rule or two.

A dedicated member of the Saskatoon Snowmobile Club for more than 42 years, Marcel has served in many roles, including Vice-President, President, and now as a member of the Club’s Advisory Board. He also represented the Club as a Director with the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association for about eight years.

As a certified snowmobile safety instructor, Marcel taught numerous safety courses through the Club before online instruction became the norm. In recent years, he has focused on early-season trail signing and spring takedown, as well as pitching in at various work bees throughout the year.

Now at 72, Marcel is hoping to spend a little less time working and a little more time riding just for fun — though, as he says, "we’ll see how that works out!"
